Yes it's in a shady neighborhood....but if you're looking for a basic (and decently priced!) place for breakfast this will do! They actually make their hash-browns from scratch, too, and they taste great! I wish there were more breakfast spots like this in SF. We don't always need overly priced & fancy avocado toast with endless mimosas!

The owner and his wife are the NICEST people! They were very warm and welcoming, and the food was delicious. The portions were very generous, and you can taste the love in the food. Reminded me a lot of homemade food growing up. Definitely coming back!

Those of you reading this that are looking for a no-frills, greasy spoon, and inexpensive breakfast dining experience in San Francisco, look no further because "Moulin Rouge Restaurant" will have you covered. I was in shock because "inexpensive" and "San Francisco" is something that you will not find in the same sentence. And when you think of Moulin Rouge, the first thought that comes to mind is a French cabaret. Even though the name says that, this place is not any of that at all. Located directly on Geary St. (and in between Larkin and Hyde St's) in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, this place has been serving up delicious homemade breakfast platters for years. As my lady and I were starving after making the 90 minute drive from Sacramento, we definitely needed food to fuel us throughout the morning and early afternoon. Parking can be tricky and pay attention because just about everything is metered during normal business hours. We were fortunate to find a parking space about a block away. As I mentioned this place is as no-frills as you will get. Don't expect a fancy dining experience when coming here. It almost reminds me of a hole-in-the-wall joint that has a rustic 1960's feel to it. Space is limited but when my lady and I arrived (which was around 10:30am on a Friday morning), there was only one other customer. Once entering, we were greeted by what I am thinking was the owner and his wife. Very friendly and down to earth people. Once seated, we were given menus and ice waters. I ended up ordering an egg (cooked over easy) with a stack of pancakes and a side of fresh fruit. She ordered two eggs (also cooked over easy), a generous serving of bacon strips, and hash browns. As I mentioned, both our entrees were very inexpensive; only $9.99/each for our meals (not including drinks). Both our plates arrived in just under 10 minutes. My pancakes were warm, fluffy, and went beautifully with the side of butter. Her hash browns also had a nice crispy texture while the bacon was thick, salty, and savory. Definitely something you would expect at this type of establishment. All in all, the customer service, food, and dining experience was above average. My rating, a solid four stars.

Overall: (4.25) This is a cool little hole in the wall in the TL! It doesn't have much curb appeal but when you walk in, there is a whole different vibe. I was very impressed with the meat lover's omelet and the couple running the place are very sweet. Portion size: (5) The 3 egg omelets are huge but if you're still hungry after that there is a nice helping of hash browns. Price: (5) When you take into account the portion size and that the price is pretty average for the area, I would say this is well worth it *if you're paying card, the gentleman will ask if you would like to add a tip. Give him the exact dollar amount. I made the mistake of telling him I would like to tip 20% and he accidentally charged me a 50% tip Quality: (4) I'm not an omelet connoisseur but I thought it was better than most that I've had Service: (3) It took quite a while to get my food and the gentleman taking orders didn't pay me much attention after taking my order BUT in their defense, the couple running the place are a bit older. I expected that it would take a while and I wasn't in a hurry, so I didn't mind.

I went there for brunch with my boyfriend on Labor day around noon, and was so glad to not have a wait. This is a nice cute place with a very aesthetic feel. I had an egg white Denver omelette and my boyfriend had two eggs and breakfast sausages which he said was nice. The omelette was really good and hearty! Docking a star because the cheese was not included in the price, which they did not mention, and there were no substitutions allowed. The way the server asked what cheese I wanted after I told him my order made it seem like it came with. I also can't eat toast and potatoes, both of which come with the omelette, and they refused to give me anything else instead, so I just lost all my sides. Very disappointing.
